God Directs our Paths Women's Ministries
by Hannah Butt Some people spend their lives trying to, get their “ducks
in a row” before they can make a move, or a decision. It is not uncommon to hear people say, “When I get that new job then I can ….” For me this has never been the case. I recently commented to Daniel (my husband), that sometimes it feels like our “ducks” have never been in a row — in fact they have been waddling all over the park. Yet strange as it may seem, I am completely at peace with that. I know the One who holds my future has my life plan in his hand.
Daniel and I had only been married two weeks when we leſt
everything that I had known all my life and boarded a plane to Canada. Yes, we were moving to Daniel’s home town and home church, but we had no idea how it was all going to work out. We shipped boxes of goods from the United Kingdom, and we each brought a suitcase — those were all our worldly possessions. We had no idea where we were going to live, what we were going to drive, or even how we were going to support ourselves. I did not even have a visa to live and work in Canada. But we knew God had called us, and we had to go. Slowly, each piece of our puzzle was put into place. We found a place to live, we were actually given a vehicle, and Daniel had some casual employment, and I was granted permanent residency relatively quickly.
We understood what Paul expressed: “Not that we are
sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God” (2 Cor. 3:5). God supplied every- thing that we needed; indeed he always does! We may not have been driving the car that we would have chosen, and we were living 25 minutes from where we wanted to be, but we had what we needed. Daniel worked two jobs and completed his studies. At the same time, I also worked. God gave us the abil ity to work and provide for ourselves. Tose first few years of our marriage we fully and com pletely relied on God to get us through, and he did.
Some years later, we found ourselves once again hearing God’s voice call us out from all that we knew to something

different. We were moving from the mountains and lakes of Brit- ish Columbia to the prairie lands of Saskatchewan. Once again we saw all our “ducks” wandering all over the park. “And my God will supply every need of y ours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:19). Once again we saw God provide all that we needed, and even some of what we wanted. We have been able to grow our family here and buy our first home here. Perhaps finally, all our ducks were in a row. For the first time in many years, we were growing very comfortable.
But once again we are hearing the very clear and com-
manding voice of God telling us “Go.” Once again our ducks are waddling all over the park. Tis time we have received a clear call to head to England to an inner city church in a community with very little gospel witness. “But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us” (2 Cor. 4:7). We are being called to go and share this treasure of the gospel to draw people to Christ not in our own strength, but in the strength of God. We may not know what our home is going to look like, or what kind of car we will drive, but we do know whom we serve, and he will supply all that we need (Phil. 4:19). As I look back over the last number of years, I am thankful for the many opportunities that I have had to learn to lean on God for all my needs. I am also thankful that my ducks have not been neatly standing in a row, or I might have missed seeing the hand of God leading and directing my every path. As our family embarks on this new adventure, I am ever grateful for my Saviour and King who knows the end from the beginning and directs my every path.
