“There is no finishing line.” — said by many a wise person
Well done for getting across the finishing line by completing this book! The sport provides many combinations and permutations for ways the boats can interact, and in trying to clearly and fairly provide the rights and obligations of each boat in each situation, the rules can appear to be complex when approached in their entirety. Rules knowledge grows with experience, and is a never-ending journey. The
more you race or hear protests or write sailing instructions or attend seminars or teach the rules to others, the deeper your own rules knowledge will get. My advice is to focus in on an aspect of the rules that interests or is important to you at any given time and study it hard. Return to the pertinent sections in this book and re-read them as you may get something additional out of what is written. Be sure to read each referenced Case or Appeal. In this chapter I have listed additional rules resources to help you continue
to grow your rules knowledge and confidence. And there are many more in ad- dition to these. As I have said, becoming clear and confident with the rules will make you a better game player and/or a more effective race official, both of which help make the sport more fun to play and are satisfying personal goals to work towards.
