Da Vinci robotic heart surgery at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital
Rated the top UK hospital for overall patient care in nine of the past 12 years, it offers world-class private heart and chest care
Robotic heart surgery using the Da Vinci Robot is a game-changer for patients. It allows heart valve repair (mitral
valve) and some chest wound coronary
artery bypass operations (CABG) to be performed through tiny incisions, each only 8mm. Patients have much less pain and fewer
infections than conventional heart surgery, and are often home two to three days after surgery and back to normal activities in two to three weeks. Te only centre in the UK
performing this ground-breaking surgery is the world-renowned Liver- pool Heart and Chest Hospital, the UK’s largest heart and chest hospital and the first specialist hospital to be inspected and rated Outstanding by
the Care Quality Commission not once, but twice. Te Rowan Suite is its new private patient unit with state-of- the-art facilities. Mr Paul Modi is their British-, US- and German-trained heart
surgeon
who treats patients from all over the world with minimally invasive and robotic techniques. Trained by all three of the American pioneers of robotic heart surgery, he has been featured on BBC News and BBC One’s Te One Show. Having worked as an instructor in robotic heart surgery in the US and now returned to the UK, his philosophy is to provide the same surgical excellence to his patients as those treated in the major North Amer- ican heart centres.
