Guests are lodged in a small number of raised
chalets, orambalamas, a traditional Sri Lankan place of rest for weary travellers. The focal point of these rooms is the emerald hills, while their interiors are deliberately minimal without compromising on comfort. Air conditioning is replaced by fans and the altitude’s natural cooling, all part of Santani’s intelligent and eco-friendly design. Meanwhile, a gm is traded in for local hikes with resident naturalists and twice-daily yoga sessions. Rooms can be supplied with Wi-Fi, but this isn’t available in shared spaces, encouraging a personal recharge rather than a technological one. In addition to nourishing the soul, a highlight for many is the dining experience at the restaurant. Here, in place of a specific menu, guests receive a daily consultation with chef Wajira, who crafts bespoke dishes for every meal. Flanked by the yoga studio, the spa is tucked
into the hillside, where three treatment rooms, a cedar wood sauna and open-air thermal salt pool look out onto peaceful paddy fields and the Knuckles Mountain Range in the distance.
