Song Saa Private Island KOH RONG ARCHIPELAGO, CAMBODIA
In the waters of Cambodia’s Koh Rong Archipelago lies Song Saa Private Island, a sanctuary of sensitive luxury that offers discerning travellers true connection with nature, community and self. Spread across two jungle-clad isles joined by
a footbridge over a marine reserve, this award- winning resort is rooted in the Khmer phrase for ‘the sweethearts’, a name that speaks to both the island’s intimate setting and its founding ethos of love for people and planet. Since its inception, Song Saa has been a pioneer in regenerative travel. The surrounding marine sanctuary was Cambodia’s first of its kind, established in partnership with the Song Saa Foundation: a nonprofit that continues to protect local habitats. Guests stay in 24 rustically elegant villas, each
crafted from reclaimed timber and driftwood. Some are perched above the water, others nestled within the jungle canopy, but all offer ocean views, private pools and barefoot luxury. A stay here is less about polished perfection and more about soul- stirring simplicity: open-air showers, handwoven textiles and a soundtrack of waves and wildlife.
As with everything at Song Saa, food is crafted
with care and seasoned with love. In honour of the resort’s vision for a resilient Cambodian supply chain and a commitment to the health of people and the planet, the majority of ingredients are sourced from ethical local suppliers. Menus blend Khmer flavours with international favourites and change regularly to reflect nature’s rhythms. Dinner is served in a different location each night: under the stars, on a deck over the ocean or in one of the restaurants. The spa offers treatments inspired by Buddhist
traditions and plant wisdom. There’s no spa menu, just bespoke healing rituals set in pavilions that float above the mangroves or overlook the ocean. Experiences unfold at a slow, deliberate
pace. Guests can paddleboard through emerald coves, kayak through mangrove forests or visit neighbouring villages to connect with the culture of the archipelago. One of the best ways to end the day is with starlit
meditation on the yoga deck, followed by a moonlit swim among bioluminescent plankton.
