Hotel April1550 LJUBLJANA OLD TOWN, SLOVENIA

April1550 is tucked away on a quiet cobbled street at the edge of Ljubljana’s Old Town, just beneath Castle Hill, behind St Jacob’s Church and steps from the chandelier-adorned piazza of St Florian’s Church. Housed in a building dating to 1550, April1550 is

a study in meticulous preservation. Every detail, from rooms to amenities, has been chosen to bring peace and calm. With minimal intervention to the historic structure, the hotel is a haven to relax: read a book in the secret garden, marvel at artisanal alongside historic traditions or simply clear the mind and let new ideas flow. The eight individually bookable rooms are

furnished in calming naturals, with oak floors and underfloor heating for winter comfort, and thick walls keeping interiors pleasant in summer. The interiors complement the building’s architecture — arches, vaults, niches and openings — with bespoke furniture, restored mid-century armchairs, exposed bricks and wooden ceilings revealing the house’s history. Rooms are equipped with select books from the hotel library, yoga mats and all-natural cosmetics. A complimentary

pillow menu and locally sourced breakfast are included. The ground-floor space is the hotel’s living

room, a hybrid dining room, cafe, bar and workshop space. The small bar stocks fine spirits, Slovenian wines, craft beers and non-alcoholic drinks, while a curated concept store offers items used throughout the hotel. Hallways showcase Slovenian art. Breakfast celebrates seasonal, local ingredients

sourced from handpicked farmers and artisans. Guests enjoy house-made granola, traditional sweet breads, pies and coffee cakes, alongside bread from a neighbourhood bakery. Speciality Slovenian-roasted coffee is served at breakfast and throughout the day at the large communal table, in a tucked-away nook, or in the garden while you can watch the chef prepare signature biscuits. April1550 is family owned, with staff dedicated

to down-to-earth service. The result is a place where historic elegance, thoughtful design and genuine hospitality combine to create a restorative escape.

DON’T MISS Read a book from the hotel library and sip coffee or wine in the cool shade of the secret garden
