SEND? Excluded? Apricot is here to help A
Apricot Online was founded with one purpose: to deliver engaging, live online teaching for youngsters that don’t fi t the mainstream. It’s heart-breaking to watch your child struggle at school simply because of mental or physical health challenges. Equally, when your youngster has behavioural issues, you want to fi nd a way to stop the downward trajectory of their life choices
pricot Online’s qualifi ed, specialist teachers and personalised lessons create
an encouraging and supportive environment for your challenged or vulnerable child where they can build confi dence and learn at a pace that’s constantly adjusted to meet their needs. Apricot has had lots of successes with youngsters exhib- iting autism, severe anxiety, ME/CFS, ADHD, and behavioural issues. Apricot is also a premiere alterna-
tive education provider (AEP) and has long-standing partnerships with Pupil Referral Units (PRUs), schools, and LAs. Its teachers are accus- tomed to challenging behaviours and successfully work with off -rolled and excluded students. Online learning minimises distrac-
tions, so disruptive behaviour has no audience. Peer pressure is eliminated, due to students’ relative anonymity. T ere’s no pressure to talk — commu- nication can be via the chatbox or whiteboard — and, for child protec- tion, no webcams are used. Students
can, literally, reinvent themselves — there’s no baggage.
How does Apricot work? Apricot is a small online school, so can be fl exible and construct a timetable that treats your child as an individual. • One-to-one and small group lessons • Lessons can be accessed at any safe
location — all you need is a laptop and wi-fi
• Timetables are developed to work with hospital appointments or ability to focus
• Lessons are arranged according to ability rather than age
• 70% student-led learning in terms of interactivity in lessons and autono- mous learning
• Celebrating success beyond simple academic measures to build confi - dence and resilience — rewarding eff ort, engagement, attendance, atti- tude and learning behaviours
• In Foundation GCSE, Apricot’s grades represent the maximum of fi ve, so a four is now a success rather than a failure
Apricot’s ethos is focused on giving challenged and vulnerable students the tools to maximise their life oppor- tunities by delivering a learning approach that meets their needs — and it has proved to be successful.
Jane was at an all-time low when she started learning with Apricot. She’s just been off ered a college place. I can’t thank you enough for enabling her to pursue her education when all else seemed lost
