LOISABA TENTED CAMP, KENYA A recent addition to the Elewana Collection, this instant classic was opened in Northern Laikipia in 2016. Guests sleep out under the skies on romantic star beds on an ensuite raised platform overlooking a wildlife watering hole. They can also take guided ‘star safaris’ on foot or horseback.

LIMALIMO LODGE, ETHIOPIA Another standout opening from 2016, this 14-room lodge is set on the edge of an escarpment in northern Ethiopia amid the Simien Mountains National Park. Wildlife encounters range from leopard and hyena to endemic Gelada monkey, Walia ibex and the fox-like Ethiopian wolf.

BISATE LODGE, RWANDA Wilderness Safaris’ next offering, due to open in June 2017, edges Volcanoes National Park, famed for its mountain gorilla treks. The forest lodge has six thatched villas with stunning views of the Virunga volcanoes. Wilderness also plans to open a second property, Gishwati Lodge, amid the primate-rich Gishwati Forest.

BECKS SAFARI LODGE, SOUTH AFRICA Just opened in April, this lodge is set in the Karongwe Private Game Reserve in Limpopo Province. There are eight suites bordering the river, as well as two family suites looking onto a watering hole. The 21,000- acre reserve is home to a h uge range of wildlife, including the big five.

ROHO YA SELOUS, TANZANIA August will see the latest addition to Asilia’s Tanzania offering with this eight-tent camp in the Selous Game Reserve. Activities include guided walks, fishing and boating safaris, and game drives. Jabali Ridge, Asilia’s new camp in Ruaha National Park, will follow in September.
