NEWS Next chapter for 2017 Travel Convention

The theme for this year’s Travel Convention in the Azores will be ‘The Next Chapter’. The event aims to guide atendees through the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, with tips and insights to shape the travel industry of tomorrow. Atended by senior figures from across the sector, a stellar

lineup of guest speakers is set to provide delegates with a broad overview of the future. These include Tom Johnson, director of Trajectory Partnership, who will use multi- methodology insight and foresight analysis to help delegates beter understand and plan for the future; Dr Paul Redmond, renowned expert on generational theory and the graduate labour market, who will talk about what digital native employees bring to the modern workplace; and Arnold Donald, CEO of Carnival Corporation, who will share his visions for the future in an interview session exploring trends in the cruise sector and beyond. Numerous excursions around the island have been

organised, designed to showcase the natural beauty of the Portuguese archipelago. These include a whale-watching boat excursion and trips to land-based local points of interest, including Lagoa Do Fogo (Fire Lake) and Caldeira Velha nature reserve; Sete Cidades volcanic crater; and Furnas Valley, with its lake, hot springs and famous Terra Nostra garden. Other activities include the Convention golf tournament, which

will take place at the Batalha Golf Course on the north coast of São Miguel; the annual Convention football match at the Santa Clara Stadium; and ‘Ride for Your LifeLine’ sponsored by Avis Budget, a fundraising event in aid of ABTA’s charitable trust, that will offer delegates the chance to enjoy the Azores’ beautiful landscapes during a coastal bike ride from Ponta Delgada to Populo Beach. Azores Airlines is providing direct flights from Gatwick

Airport, its main gateway in the UK, to João Paulo II Airport in Ponta Delgada. Delegates can choose to stay at the Hotel Marina Atlântico, Hotel Royal Garden or the five-star Hotel Azor, which will also host the Convention Bar, the main venue for aſter-hours delegate networking and socialising.
