ATTRACTIONS
Groundhog Day comes round on Broadway
Groundhog Day, the new musical from Tim Minchin, the Australian lyricist and composer who wrote the smash hit Matilda the Musical, has opened on Broadway. Minchin is behind the score of the show, which is a fresh take on the 1993 modern classic film, with a book by Danny Rubin, who co-authored the film script. The show is now open at the August Wilson Theatre. Another new opening already seen in
London is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, based on Roald Dahl’s 1964 book. While it ran for a very successful three and a half years in the West End, it’s been reimagined for its New York premiere and so even UK
audiences can expect surprises. The show is running at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. Hello Dolly! has now opened at the
Shubert Theatre, with an all-star cast led by Bete Midler. It’s a rare Broadway revival for this show, with this production directed by four-time Tony award winner, Jerry Zaks. For those looking to book straight
drama, the renowned Roundabout Theatre Company has announced its 2017 season, which includes Arthur Miller’s The Price, If I Forget by Steven Levenson, Marvin’s Room by Scot McPherson and Napoli, Brooklyn by Meghan Kennedy.
