The pilgrimage village of Muktinath is the first stop after crossing the brutal Thorong La Pass, and where most trekkers will find their first hot shower in days. The Shree Muktinath Temple is sacred to both Hindus and Buddhists, and many pilgrims travel from across the sub-continent to visit. The Mustang region is cut off by the high Himalayas and has historically had more trade with Tibet than other regions in Nepal. The architecture in villages like Kagbeni and Jharkot is in the Tibetan style, with whitewashed walls and monasteries at the heart of the communities. In Marpha, orchards produce apples sold all over Nepal, and the villages use the products to make apple pies and pastries for the weary trekkers who pass through.
