Join us at the BMC AGM on 16 June

Want to have your say in how the BMC is run? Or get updated on our plans for the future? This year, we’re taking the BMC AGM to the Castle Green Hotel in Kendal, the gateway to the Lake District. There’s a schedule of events planned over the weekend of 16/17 June, and the AGM itself will be taking place at 1pm on Saturday 16 June. It’s the crucial friendly, social event for outdoor enthusiasts who are members of the BMC.

Find out with the new Regional Access Database apps

e’ve just launched new versions of our Regional Access Database (RAD) apps. Downloadable on Android and iOS, they are free and come with a host of new features like navigation and parking, weather and tidal updates and, of course, information on restrictions or notes on access advice.

The aim is for RAD to be community led. Your comments help keep it up-to-date so don’t be afraid to add any relevant information after a crag visit which might be useful for other visitors – anything from conditions on the crag, favourite routes or reports of rockfall/other recent changes to the crag are all useful for other climbers visiting.

BMC access and conservation officer Rob Dyer said: “The whole BMC access team is excited about the new apps. We’ve been working on them over the last year and they are a great leap forward for BMC access information. I installed the Android app and it’s certainly made my life easier. Give them a try!”

Where is your limit? Would you recognise it? For Steve McClure it’s an endless series of matchstick edges and nothing holds, high above the Yorkshire Dales. If this climb was one move longer, it’d still be a dream… instead it’s the UK’s hardest-ever climb.

Mind Control

For Hazel Findlay, climbing means one thing: pushing yourself. With a surgeon about to slice into her shoulder, Hazel has to contemplate the biggest challenge of all: a life without climbing.
