LANCASHIRE: Wilton
This year’s WiltonFest was a massive success with a record turnout of over 400 people and a huge number of routes climbed, burgers eaten, brews made and pints quaffed. Dedicated to the memory of our dear friend Nick Bond who sadly lost his battle with cancer earlier this year, what better way to remember such a posi-tive figure in Lancs climbing and the instigator of WiltonFest than by hosting hundreds of climbers at Lancashire’s premier crag and raising £1400 for Climbers Against Cancer in the process? Roll on WiltonFest 2018!
NORTH YORK MOORS: Clemmit’s Crag.
Following a report in March 2018 of a climber being challenged by a game keeper and told climbing is not allowed, further investigation has unfortunately con- firmed that the Head Keeper has banned climbing at the crag. The main crag is not on Open Access land so there is no legal right to climb on it. As the more signifi-cant Danby Crag is on the same estate and currently enjoys only seasonally re-stricted access, it is important that climbers observe this ban to maintain access to Danby Crag.
CLWYD LIMESTONEL: Minera Quarry
The venue has been bought by North Wales Wildlife Trust who is developing it as a nature reserve. They have expressed concerns about climbing and liability on the site (that they were unaware of). The BMC is
arranging to meet with the Wildlife Trust to discuss this further. In the meantime please do not develop any new routes here and if asked to leave please do so and report back to the BMC.
LLANDULAS: Marian Bach
The landowner has stated that they do not want climbers on their land and that they have never given permission for climbing to be developed here. Again BMC are trying to arrange a meeting to secure a solution. But in the meantime please do not park on the approach drive and if the landowner comes across climbers he is likely to insist that climbers leave.
LLANTRISANT: Coed Ely
The crag lies on private land, not on open access land, and away from public rights of way: the landowner has stated categorically that she does not allow access for climbing. In addition the land owner states that building works for a new farmhouse will start near to the crag in the near future.
SEASONAL RESTRICTIONS: Now in force
A reminder that seasonal restrictions are now in place for many venues – Clwyd Limestone (Craig Arthur and Independence quarry), The Ormes, Gower and Pem-brokeshire. Some of these are quite complex and do change, so please check the RAD before climbing here. On the Great Orme there is no climbing before 6pm above the Marine Drive on bank holiday weekends and from July 15 to Sept 7th
