decisions that actual lower the dispatch reliability for the aircraft. We can empower our technicians with autonomy, meaning they are free to gather all the information available and use it to make the most accurate dispatch decision based on safety and airworthiness. We can reward these accurate decisions in a meaningful way, whether it is a go or a no-go. This will surely initiate technicians into a culture of success that naturally produces the excellent DR percentages that keep us all employed. Any maintenance team can articulate high performance when they create a high dispatch reliability. Doing so requires every member to daily renew their focus and dedication to performing the job at a high level. It takes concentrated eff ort on every departure, arrival, post-fl ight inspection, and all planned and unplanned maintenance in between. It demands rapid and accurate problem solving and free thinking — creatively abiding within the loose confi nes of the regulations. Those little blue/green certifi cates that we carry around don’t exclusively represent restriction and regulation. They also gift us with freedom to fully express our unique talent and intellect. The ghosts of the Wright Brothers haunt the backside of those cards, imploring us with emerald stares to emulate the spirit of the miracle worker who propelled their dreams into reality with literal horsepower — Mr. Charles Taylor. Use the grey area provided in the FAR’s to your advantage. Enjoy the freedom to create and innovate. Use your God-given faculties to provide solutions that will allow department directors to boast about dispatch reliability to their envious colleagues. They will have plenty to boast about if each A&P technician on their team can keep DR in proper perspective. Team success becomes inevitable when we use our limited resources to reward creativity and integrity, instead of a specifi c DR outcome. Create your culture from the top down so that when a technical problem creates an opportunity for the individual technician to shine, he or she feels empowered by management, not confl icted.
Experience. Unlike any other.
