This helps our advertisers connect the dots between money spent on print advertising and results! That said, we also recognize that each year,

more and more of our readers are getting their information from the Internet and from their portable devices (tablets, phones, etc.). We’ve invested resources to continue to develop our websites and platforms for electronic delivery of our content. We’ve removed any requirements for registration on our site so you can freely browse all of our content. Plus, we continue to off er D.O.M. on
DOMmagazine.com and via Apple, Android and other apps so that it is compatible and available on all types of tablets/devices. Visit
DOMmagazine.com often and click on the ads if you see something you like. Again, it helps our advertisers justify the investment of supporting the maintenance community through our website. 2019 is defi nitely shaping up to be a great
year for aviation. In addition to a strong economy that has been ushered in by the new administration, Congress and the Senate have

approved a “re-authorization and reform bill for the FAA.” H.R. 302 provides the funds and sets forth a number of enhancements and authorizations to do things like Modernize the Airport environment (ATC, Airports, etc.). It also provides funds for enhancing safety by providing more training to the industry, improving service to passengers, and more. Included in the modernization eff ort are funds to encourage general aviation aircraft to install ADS-B out capability in small aircraft. The encouragement is in the form of a $500 rebate program. This program was originally launched a few years ago, but the rebates had run out. The reauthorization program introduces new funds to encourage more aircraft owners to update their aircraft. Although a $500 rebate may not seem like
a great deal of money relative to an aircraft, there are ADS-B out systems now that are fairly low cost (less than $3,000), so $500 represents a signifi cant percentage of the cost. Keep in mind that this rebate program is
directed at fi xed-wing, single-engine piston aircraft — these are “owners who are most likely to delay their decision to equip with ADS-B because of cost concerns,” according to the FAA. The program is only applicable for TSO-certifi ed ADS-B equipment. A list of eligible equipment can be found at https://

Another benefi t of the strong economy and
a renewed commitment by the government to fund aviation is the fact that more mechanics, MANY more mechanics, are needed to support the fl ying community. Basically, it’s a mechanics market out there.
Just about everyone I speak with is hiring — and you can fi nally be picky and choosy about where you work. My recommendation is to hold out for what
you deserve — higher pay, benefi ts, and overall respect. We thank you for your continued support. .
Thanks for reading! Greg Napert, Proud to be an A&P
