The weakened pound is boosting business as English Heritage welcomes more overseas and domestic visitors to its historic properties. Samantha Mayling reports.

he fall in sterling, coupled with two royal weddings this year, means English Heritage


attractions are likely to see visitor numbers rise again in 2018. Samantha Vaughan, acting national


travel trade and Stonehenge marketing manager, said English Heritage is expecting 2018 to be a buoyant year, with figures continuing the upward trend seen during 2017 – largely thanks to the weak pound. “We will gain from overseas visitors finding it very affordable to come to the UK and from the many Brits who will be prompted to take staycations, to avoid losing out on more costly overseas holidays,” she said. “Two royal weddings will also play a

� One of the best surviving examples of a Carthusian priory in England, Mount Grace has seen an investment of more than £120,000 recently.


� Celebrity gardener Chris Beardshaw joined the team to rejuvenate the Arts and Crafts garden, and a new cafe has been created near the orchard.
