The 2018 season in the house at Waddesdon Manor in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, starts on March 21. Once the country home of the
Rothschilds, Waddesdon Manor is a Renaissance-style chateau housing one of the finest collections of French 18th century decorative arts in the world.
Jody Farrar, marketing vice- president at US firm Chute, will offer delegates tips about how to use social media. In her keynote speech titled
Conquering Social Media: Do’s and Don’ts, she will advise how to get the most from platforms such as Twitter and Instagram. Farrar can help with advice on timings of posts, hashtags, the merits of different platforms, publication tools such as Hootsuite and Buffer, and user-generated content. Chute is a social media
marketing specialist that works with major brands such as adidas, Condé Nast, United Nations, New York Times, and Ford. It helps travel firms to make the most of social media and user-generated content. Farrar has been in marketing and social media for more than 15 years, and has presented at travel and technology conferences across the world.

Summit in Cornwall buoys tourism firms
Last month’s Cornwall Tourism Summit attracted more than 200 professionals to hear tips and inspiration for 2018. Organised by Visit Cornwall, the one-day event in Newquay featured motivational marketing expert, Geoff Ramm. Malcolm Bell, Visit Cornwall

‘Behind the scenes’ events include the Manor Kitchen Discovery Talk, during which groups can discover what life was like preparing for an 1890s weekend house party. This talk includes coffee/tea and
Danish pastries. Visitors can also join the food and entertainment laid on for
‘Feast’ (June 16-17), inspired by the historical ‘Baron’s Treat’, when Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild would invite local children to enjoy a tea party in the gardens of Waddesdon Manor.

Stand B40 Chills and thrills at West Midland Safari Park
A £1 million prehistoric-themed exhibit called Ice Age will open in spring at West Midland Safari Park. Continuing the journey from The Land of the Living Dinosaurs exhibit, it will feature a huge volcano, ice cave and life-size animals such as a woolly mammoth. Celebrating its 45th year in
2018, the park is also the official Education Partner for Worcester Stands Tall – a public art exhibition with decorated giraffe sculptures around the streets of Worcester during the summer. Visitors will also be able
to see baby animals born in 2017 celebrate their first birthdays, such as Fennessy the Rothschild’s giraffe and Fahari, a southern white rhino.

Tourism and heritage minister Michael Ellis has announced that Jodrell Bank Observatory has been chosen as the UK’s nomination for World Heritage site status in 2019. Part of the University of Manchester, the observatory is home to the Grade I Listed Lovell Telescope and is a site of global importance in the
history of radio astronomy.
