Content distribution NDC is just one way

“The basic discussion with NDC is how to

get information.” He notes: “The [airline] industry has set

certain goals and it’s good to have goals. It allows the industry to focus.” Iata has repeatedly said at least 20

airlines will be taking 20% of bookings via NDC channels by 2020. This target has been challenged by senior figures in the corporate travel sector. Asked whether Iata’s target is attainable,

Elliott says: “The technology we have today is extremely efficient. It’s the result of the agreement of all parties in the industry to collaborate and to standardise. Now we have all the components in the GDS and we build an offer. “NDC is not just about connectivity.

THE UK is the world’s biggest market for international air

passengers (Figure 23) and biggest market in Europe by air transport turnover (Figure 24). Germany dominates Europe’s corporate travel market (Figure 25)

With NDC, we have to request an offer from every airline system [for every search request]. So it depends on the airlines’ systems.” At the same time, he says, the rate of

adoption and volume of NDC-enabled bookings are “not just up to the airlines and the GDSs adopting the system. It is also up to travel agencies [to adopt the system]. It is a lot more complicated. All parties need to be aligned.”

NDC schedule Elliott says: “We try to be realistic. This year is the development year to launch our NDC-enabled solutions and process NDC content from multiple airlines. “Next year we will have a critical mass
