JULY


Wendy Wu Tours appointed former STA boss Glen Mintrim as managing director for the UK to drive its three-year growth plan and develop trade sales. Flexible Autos reassured agent partners its reservations were unaffected after a cyberattack. Avis Budget introduced a self-service car rental option, Smile Rent, in Italy, that allowed clients to access vehicles via mobile phones.


AUGUST


Great Rail Journeys acquired US firm Vacations by Rail, claiming the deal made it the market leader for escorted rail holidays in the US. Titan’s Europe and UK brochure


added 10 European escorted holidays, including Oberammergau’s famous Passion Play. Celebrity chef John Torode became APT’s ambassador for the Kimberley region of Western Australia, dubbed ‘Australia’s final frontier’, ahead of a dedicated brochure. Inghams added Japan for the first time for the 2019-20 ski season.


SEPTEMBER


Travelsphere reduced group sizes to a maximum of 35 people for its 2020 Europe & Worldwide Collection brochure, while Explore launched three family trips for 2020. The Association of Touring & Adventure Suppliers (Atas) held its third annual conference at Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester with the theme ‘Experience the Moment’. Bruce Poon Tip, founder of G Adventures, gave a keynote address at the event, which attracted more than 350 delegates including new supplier members Ramblers Walking Holidays and Adagio. °
