JANUARY

Titan Travel released its first Travel Trend Report 2019. The US took top spot out of 25 destinations based on forward bookings, followed by Italy, Canada, India and South Africa, with a renewed interest in Egypt and more demand for off-the-beaten track destinations among other highlights. Newmarket Holidays introduced

35 tours for 2019-20, its largest-ever range of air-inclusive escorted tours and resort-based stays; while Wendy Wu Tours was granted permission to process a new, specialist visa for UK visitors to China. Affordable Car Hire rebranded

for its 15th birthday, with new motorhomes product offering commissionable rentals. It introduced a star-shaped logo, strapline ‘Rentals Made Simple’ and an enhanced website.

FEBRUARY

In a Big Interview in Travel Weekly, Trafalgar’s chief executive Gavin Tollman identified trends in the touring sector: a growing desire for authenticity, sustainability, and emerging destinations such as Japan, South America, Italy and South Africa. He reported a shift to later bookings due to

the uncertain political climate. G Adventures and National Geographic Expeditions expanded their joint holiday range with a new group trips for families in 2020.

MARCH

Cosmos and sister brand Globus launched their first UK tours to tap into demand for staycations, while Shearings Holidays reported domestic sales were boosted by the mild weather, late Easter and Brexit-related concerns. Wendy Wu Tours revealed the cruise-and-tour programme for its first new-build ship, the $10 million Victoria Mekong, to launch in December, offering four group and two private tours on sailings between Can Tho pier, Vietnam and Phnom Penh, Cambodia. G Adventures created a range of ‘TailorMade’ tours in 11 destinations to meet demand for customised travel. Trafalgar moved to 100% guaranteed departures for the summer to give agents confidence to book as the first Brexit deadline approached, and offered £200 off per couple to celebrate 10 years of its Be My Guest home dining programme. Intrepid Travel added four women-

only expedition tours to mark International Women’s Day, and seven cycling tours after strong demand. APT appointed Becky Baumbach
