IN FOCUS l WTM LONDON Discover all that Wales has to offer in 2019
Next year will be the official Year of Discovery in Wales, encouraging tourists to discover the country’s attractions, adventures and experiences. Visit Wales will be highlighting the themed year on its WTM London stand, along with other campaigns and venues. Following the historic win for
Welsh cyclist Geraint Thomas in the Tour de France this summer, the tourism agency will also be working to maximise this global boost for Wales’ profile. The Wales Way – launched at
last year’s WTM – will remain a focus, as Visit Wales promotes the family of three national touring routes. This campaign is part of a 10-year development programme to increase visitors to Wales. The tourist board will update
delegates about St Fagans National Museum of History which

Get the most from the coast at Bridgend
The county of Bridgend will be highlighting its coastal attractions as part of Visit Wales’ Year of Discovery in 2019. Just 18 miles from the Welsh
capital of Cardiff and 20 miles east of Swansea, Bridgend county includes the seaside town of Porthcawl, which has the closest consistent surf beaches to London. The area is home to the second- highest sand dunes in Europe, and visitors can explore the Glamorgan Heritage Coast on a fatbike – an off-road bike with large tyres.
The county is home to one of the UK’s most important wildlife conservation sites, Kenfig National Nature Reserve, and nature lovers can also visit the woodlands of Coed Y Mwstwr Hotel, Bridgend. Major events in the region include the single largest Elvis event in Europe – the Porthcawl Elvis Festival – and the UK’s largest Christmas Day swim, also in Porthcawl, an event that has been going for 55 years.
