SHIPS AT THE SHOW C R U I S E

CROWN PRINCESS

PRINCESS CRUISES

CLIA VISIT DAY: SATURDAY, MAY 27

BRIEFLY: Crown Princess launched in 2006 with several features that were new for Princess Cruises, among them an adult-only Sanctuary and Italian piazza-style atrium with a wine bar, cafe and ‘street’ entertainers.

WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR: There have been a few changes since

Crown Princess last visited the convention in 2010, including a refurbishment in 2011 and the addition of the Salty Dog gastropub last year. In the Wheelhouse Bar each evening, the pub serves small plates of burgers, ribs, lobster and crab cakes for an extra $19.

AT A GLANCE lThe Crab Shack is a self-service pop-up restaurant that opens in Cafe Caribe on selected evenings. Diners are armed with mallets, bibs and buckets to help them break into the crustaceans.

l Club Class perks have just been added for those staying in mini suites. They include seating in a separate area of the dining room with a special menu and dedicated waiting staff, a complimentary half bottle of red and white wine in the cabin on arrival, and priority embarkation and disembarkation.

lAgents who saw Crown Princess in 2010 will remember that Italian restaurant Sabatini’s served a 16-course menu. It was a marathon meal that defeated most passengers, so these days it is a more modest four courses. Coming soon is a new menu created with Italian chef Angelo Auriana.

lTours will visit the top-deck Sanctuary where adults can sunbathe in peace for a fee, the Crown Grill steakhouse and the main dining rooms.

KEY SELLING POINTS l New Best of British menus introduced while Crown Princess sails from the UK this summer mean guests can have fish and chips, Cornish pasties, Lancashire hotpot, breakfast bangers and Sunday roasts.

l Fans of TV’s The Voice can take part in Princess’s own version of the show (see ‘Let Us Entertain You’, page 37). Passengers are picked from karaoke auditions during the cruise. A new production show, Magic To Do, is playing in the theatre.

lTwo-bedroom suites that hold up to eight people, extensive play areas for kids and a teen club, combined with no-fly sailings from Southampton this summer, make this a good option for families.
