Serenade 1 Titan Travel boss says line needs more capacity

Serenade sell-out prompts call for second river ship

Titan Travel wants a second river cruise vessel in 2019 after sell-out sales for its exclusive charter on Serenade 1 this year. Managing director Andy Squirrell said demand for Serenade 1 indicated that Titan needed more capacity. There is some space left this year, but only outside the main season, and 2018 cruises are selling well.

About 30% of sales are through

the trade, with the rest coming direct. Some 60% are repeat bookings. This is the first year Titan has had

its own river cruise vessel, although it had an exclusive sales deal with

Uniworld River Cruises and took allocations on other boats. It is still selling other lines including Scenic, Uniworld and AmaWaterways. Serenade 1 started sailing for

Titan at the beginning of April. The company has refurbished parts of the vessel and adapted the menus to appeal to British passengers, but plans to do more work next winter. A new 2017-18 brochure features Christmas markets cruises as well as an eight-day Rhine itinerary departing December 21. A one- week cruise on the Rhine and Main between Nuremberg and Basel departing July and October starts from £1,579.

New cruise brand U by Uniworld open for bookings

Bookings are now open for a new river cruise brand aimed at holidaymakers aged 21 to 45. U by Uniworld is designed to

attract a new audience to river cruising, which traditionally is seen as a holiday choice for older travellers. Itineraries are on sale now for departures starting in spring 2018. Two vessels, River Ambassador and River Baroness, are being

refitted with communal spaces and rooftop lounges. Their exteriors will be painted black and they will

Amsterdam

be renamed The A and The B respectively. The A will cruise the Rhine, Main and Danube Rivers, The B will cruise the Seine in France. Itineraries will be tailored to allow time for passengers to visit local bars and restaurants. Shop-with- the-chef tours, guided bike rides and opportunities to go rock climbing are among excursions. Prices from £899 for eight days.
