Destination weddings are tipped to become an increasingly lucrative sector in Italy. The country hosted 8,790 foreign weddings in 2018, generating 436,000 arrivals (up 7% on 2017) and more than 1.5 million bednights, according to Convention Bureau Italia. The wedding sector is estimated to be worth €500 million a year for the country. The tourist board for Puglia claimed demand for weddings in
southern Italy was on the up, but that work was still needed to highlight destinations which remained less known by visitors. Alfredo De Liguori, marketing manager at Pugliapromozione, said:
“An increasing number of international luxury travellers are looking to Italy for exclusive wedding destinations, like Puglia. There are still places that remain somewhat hidden. From the beautiful Gargano to Valle d’Itria

Slovenia hails Green Scheme

said the country’s focus on sustainability was helping to avert the problems that tourism can generate. Maja Pak, director general of the Slovenian Tourist Board, said: “While tourism continues to grow, we have established concrete measures through our Green Scheme
