Ryanair claims 97% sorted after holiday rota blunder


Ryanair claimed to have processed 305,000 alternative routeings or refunds for more than 97% of passengers affected by cancellations due to its pilots’ holiday rota “mess-up”. The airline said the remaining customers were yet to make contact. It is cancelling 2,100 of its 130,000 flights in September and October.


Bomb victim Chloe’s dad thanks trade at memorial


A memorial bench has been placed outside South Shields Town Hall to 17-year-old Westoe Travel apprentice Chloe Rutherford and her boyfriend Liam Curry, four months after they were killed in the Manchester terrorist bombing. Chloe’s father Mark thanked the travel industry for its support as more than 200 people gathered for the service, including staff from Westoe Travel.


Dawson & Sanderson staff donate £28,000 to charity


Dawson & Sanderson has raised £28,000 for a cancer charity, smashing its £20,000 target. The Daft as a Brush Cancer Patient Care charity provides free transport for patients in the north of England. Agency staff raised the cash on zip-wire runs, sponsored walks, cake bakes and golf days.


Celestyal brings Magowan on board for Europe role


Celestyal Cruises has appointed Andrew Magowan as commercial vice-president for Europe. Magowan has 25 years’ experience in cruise, including as vice-president for the EMEA region at Seabourn and senior sales and marketing roles at NCL, Cunard, Swan Hellenic and SeaDream. Most recently, he ran marketing, PR and management consultancy firm Andrew Magowan & Associates.

Abercrombie & Kent joins Atas as supplier member

Abercrombie & Kent, Global and D-flo have become the latest members of the Association of Touring & Adventure Suppliers, as Global was unveiled as the consumer media partner for the association’s first conference.


Abercrombie & Kent becomes the 26th supplier member of Atas, joining a line-up of operators specialising in escorted touring and adventure travel. Global, the parent company


of radio stations such as Heart, Capital and Classic FM, and customer communications specialist D-flo become the association’s latest associate members. The first Atas Conference


will take place at Birmingham’s International Convention Centre on October 18, with more than 200 agents meeting members and enjoying a series of business sessions, a gala dinner and awards. Rachel Healey, Abercrombie &

Norwegian plans further long-haul expansion after its British division won a permit from US authorities two years after being established. Norwegian UK was last week


granted a foreign air carrier permit for transatlantic operations by the US Department of Transportation. The permit allows the carrier


to operate flights between the UK, Europe and the US. The UK subsidiary was set up
