...and beyond Kota Kinabalu
A 40-minute flight away on Borneo’s coast is the Malaysian city of Kota Kinabalu, or KK as it’s known locally. Boasting wonderful beaches, huge shopping malls, beautiful wildlife reserves and more, Kota Kinabalu is just waiting to be explored. Bordering the South China Sea, Tanjung Aru Beach is one of the most popular in the region, and is little more than three miles from the city centre. Lined with dozens of stalls and restaurants, it’s a great stop for foodies, as visitors can sample a wide variety of food and drink. Those seeking a slice of culture should start with Sabah State Museum, which is also home to a heritage village and zoo. Exploring natural habitats is best done at the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, spread across five islands and easily accessible from the mainland.
