The best of your letters, comments and social media this week Cook: Advance payments ‘breach agreements’
Comment: Unanswered questions remain over Thomas Cook Abta seems to make no attempt to police the practice of agents demanding payments in advance of the schedule required by third-party operators, even though it is in breach of agreements. It claims that early payments by clients are covered by the credit arrangements between operator and agent and relies upon some of the murkier aspects of agency law to absolve itself of any responsibility. A plain reading would suggest that unless the operator is formally advised that the agent intends to collect monies from clients in advance of its payment terms, those monies cannot possibly fall within the ambit of the credit agreement.
Paul Sawbridge Q Travel Weekly would welcome a response from Abta
Derek Jones @Degsy_DJ Der Touristik UK ‘The problem with voice is just that people don’t know what question to ask’ says Andrew Shelton from Netflights. Yes, and the problem with doing the lottery is that I don’t know which numbers will win. #twfutureoftravel
Julie Franklin @jfranklin_skye Hotelplan Loving @jlo_said saying that there is place for digital but actually many generations prefer the human touch. Talking to a person can’t be replaced comprehensively. Agreed. #twfutureoftravel
Jess Clayton @all_in_jess The Cruise Village Thanks so much @princessuksales for an absolutely incredible four nights aboard your amazing new ship, Sky Princess! What a ship, what a crew, what a gorgeous sales team, what a privilege! #sayhitosky #princesscruises #skyprincess #travel #thisismyjob #cruise
Viewdata: ‘Bring it back’
Story: If viewdata made a comeback, would you use it? Do you miss being able to search for any date and destination? Emma Jade: Yes, bring back viewdata. It’s the only system that has ever really been agent-friendly, instead of all-singing, all-dancing visuals. We want a system that is quick and simple. Viewdata was just that! Greig Ewins: Absolutely not. Web-based systems are much easier and at least you can get information without having to trawl through the internet or brochures.
Young: Not snowflakes
Agent Diary: Younger employees aren’t ‘snowflakes’, says Hays Travel’s Colin Burns, and just need a little guidance. Sally Breed: The young staff of today will be the mature knowledgeable staff of the future, shaping and moulding the younger staff. This job has learnings every day of the week so we are all learning. Give the youngsters a break just like we had!
