Heels on the runway

Inghams and sister ski brands Esprit and Ski as they formally kick off their ski season at a

I hope everyone has enjoyed their summer; the winter nights are creeping in, time to start digging out the thermals! We have some fantastic new routes starting this winter for your customers to look forward to, including easyJet’s four-times-a-week service to Toulouse, beginning in October, Ryanair flights to Paphos, plus three new links from Wizz to the Romanian cities of Bucharest, Cluj and Iasi, also starting in October. Our new twice-weekly service to Bergen with Wideroe began just before the start of the Premier League season – and many of the passengers on the first arrival from Bergen were Norwegian Liverpool supporters! Please remember we have a fantastic incentive currently running for all Wideroe bookings. For more details, log into your trade portal or check out the Facebook page. I’m thrilled to announce we saw a 3.3% increase in passenger numbers in August compared with the previous year, making it our largest single month for over seven years! Thank you to Michael from Celebrity Cruises for a fantastic afternoon on board the gorgeous

Hotelplan sees a shift away from exclusive options

Self-catered and “great-value” hotels are expected to become more popular than chalets.

Paul Carter, chief executive of

Inghams parent Hotelplan, said sales of four-star hotels were performing well, and forecast more people would opt for self-catering options as chalets become “more exclusive”. The cost of employing ski chalet staff and other seasonal workers in Europe is rising as tighter employment regulations are imposed and implemented. Carter said: “Chalets will become more expensive and exclusive, so more people will travel on self-catered ski holidays. “Great-value four-star hotels

will perform well as customers trade convenience for something else [price].”

Carter said the operator had a

very successful season last year thanks to bumper snow, and early bookings for this winter suggested it would be another good year. “It was a great season,” Carter said. “We can make a link between the amount of snow, how satisfied guests are and how well we trade.” He said prices and sales last

year were down at Christmas as customers held off booking until they knew the snow would stay. Inghams reported record passenger carryings in January. Looking ahead, Carter said

he was “more cautious than optimistic” compared with 12 months ago. “My major worry is the value of sterling,” he said. Inghams’ sister ski brands are

family specialist Esprit and chalet specialist Ski Total.
