New winter brochure unveiled by Best Served Scandinavian
Best Served Scandinavia is offering an expanded range in its 2019-20 winter brochure. Te operator has increased
the number of trips in Luleå and other areas of Swedish Lapland as well as adding itineraries in Norway’s fords and Iceland. New trips in Luleå include a
four-day Northern Lights City Break, from £495 including flights, transfers and a northern lights excursion, and a luxury four-day Winter Adventure at Arctic Retreat from £2,860, including a stay in a timber lodge with hot tub, a northern lights workshop, snowmobiling, husky-dog sledding and flights. Other new itineraries include
a five-day Whales, Huskies and Northern Lights tailor- made break, staying at Lyngen Experience, a remote nine-room fordside retreat. New flights to Bergen have led
to a range of new holidays such as the four-day Winter Break to Bergen & Te Fjords, while in Iceland there are two additional trips and a new Game of Trones excursion from Reykjavik to visit the riſt valley and medieval village made famous by the series.

Northern lights in Luleå, Sweden
PODS IN POOLE: Haven has added two-bedroom cabins called pods at its Rockley Park site in Poole. Sleeping up to six, the accommodation has outdoor decking, a lounge and a double bedroom on a raised mezzanine floor. Haven is trialling the pods at Rockley Park and may introduce them at some of its 35 other coastal parks. A four-night pod break starts at £171 per family, based on a family of up to four arriving on September 30.

Arena Rail signals intention to lift ‘disappointing’ trade sales

Arena Rail Holidays is looking at ways to increase awareness of its brand among agents aſter “disappointing” take-up by the trade. Te escorted touring rail brand, set up aſter parent
company Arena Travel bought the Diamond Rail brand in 2017, has pledged to host a Christmas markets fam trip for agents later in the year. Managing director Steve Goodenough said the
brand had yet to fulfil its potential with the trade, in part due to awareness, despite the rise in popularity of rail travel and the operator’s price parity pledge. Since 2017, the company had taken the brand more
upmarket, with more four-star hotels in Europe, and had become less price-focused, he said. Revenue and passenger numbers have doubled in the past two years. Goodenough said: “Now we are looking to expand.

Its current brochure has doubled the number of UK rail tours to six. One of its most popular tours is the
eight-day Litle Trains of the Pyrenees, from £895. Te River Cruise Line, owned by Arena Travel, has signed a four-year deal to charter a 180-passenger vessel. Te Arena ship will undergo a three-month revamp in January before its launch in April next year.
