Sri Lanka operators cut prices to drive bookings

Operators are backing a campaign of cut-price deals to get Sri Lanka back on its feet amid reports of a surge in enquiries. Tourism campaign ‘Love Sri


Lanka’ is being run by the Sri Lanka Tourism Alliance, set up by professionals from the destination’s private tourism sector aſter the Easter Sunday atacks to promote the country internationally. Te Foreign Office relaxed its travel advice on June 6. Experience Travel Group (ETG),


Petits Travel and Bamboo Travel have joined the alliance and are discounting to boost bookings. ETG co-founder Sam Clark

Tributes flood in for Millhouses’ Rachel Dawson


Fellow agents have paid tribute to “warm” and “dedicated” Millhouses Travel Worldchoice owner Rachel Dawson, who has died aged 48. She started at the family-run


Sheffield-based agency aged 16 before taking the shop on from her stepdad in 2009 and later becoming treasurer of the Active Travel Group. “Rachel was a warm, funny, and


supportive member of the Active region,” said Julie Bangham, of Travel Experience. “Her positive atitude, even during her illness, is something for which I will always admire her.” Her daughter Holly said: “She


was so dedicated to the business that she worked the day before going into labour with both children.” Her family is compiling a


digital marketing. Director Robin Ball said hotel discounts meant Sri Lanka was “fantastic value”, adding that it was an “excellent time to visit” as it was quieter than normal. Meanwhile, Kuoni is creating


a film with TV presenter Anita Rani about her recent visit, producing an offers booklet and adding a tab on its website to promote Sri Lanka deals. Premier Holidays has seen “big


demand” for Sri Lanka in the last week and released offers with posters for agents to download. Sri Lanka specialist Travel Gallery


is running a trade event to promote Sri Lanka on September 19.

The Online Travel Group is looking to expand its high street presence by signing up more post offices to generate leads and handle tickets. The East Midlands airport-based group already has a presence in 20 post offices in Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire, which promote the group’s holiday and cruise websites.
