Sheridan Boyd from Tui in Huddersfield won a Travel Weekly competition to run the Val d’Europe half-marathon at Disneyland Paris Magic Run Weekend. Running as part of a trade team with Travel Weekly and Disney representatives, Sheridan and three guests spent two nights at Disneyland Paris enjoying the Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park

This was my first half-marathon. I’d not run further than 10k previously, and when the competition came up, I couldn’t think of a better half-marathon to run than Disney’s. I didn’t even get to the full distance before the day, so it was actually the furthest I’ve ever run. As we were setting off at 7am, we met for breakfast at 5.15am. Breakfast number two, after the run, was more about the croissants and waffles. My teammates – Stu and

Oli from Travel Weekly and Claire from Disney – were so supportive. I was hoping I would finish in under two hours. As I was approaching the finish line, I could see my phone said 1.58, so I sprinted the last 100m to ensure that I made it. Cruella de Vil started the race and Mickey Mouse was at the end – it was like a giant fun run. The atmosphere was fantastic. Throughout the race there were bands playing, cheerleaders and Disney characters. The Disney crew were fantastic. They were outside all the main attractions giving everyone high-fives and

cheering you on. Then all of a sudden, another runner dressed as Iron Man ran past you. It was slightly surreal. The atmosphere was so good. Everybody I spoke to was either there for somebody who was running, or they were running themselves. As it was the ‘race of the villains’, there were villains dotted around the course. A lot of people were stopping for selfies with them. Running down Main Street, USA with my three team-mates and through Sleeping Beauty Castle were among the highlights. I was lucky to stay in the

Disneyland Hotel – it felt magical being so close to the park. We went on the Friday and had a VIP FASTPASS, as well as entry to both parks. We hit the ground running and went straight into the Disneyland Park. The following day, we visited the Walt Disney Studios Park and went on The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror which was terrifying, and then hit the Disneyland Park again. We spent most of the day in the parks and we watched

the 5k run. On the Saturday afternoon, the trade team had a photoshoot with Mickey and Goofy on Main Street, USA. My favourite attraction was

definitely the Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith. I went on it about four times. I also loved Ratatouille: The Adventure. We watched the Disney Illuminations show on the Friday, which was amazing. We just stood there in awe. Fireworks, lasers and music – it was magical. It was quite silent, as everyone just stood there just watching it. It was fantastic. We watched the Disney Stars on Parade on the Saturday. You can’t go to Disney and not watch the Disney Stars on Parade. I’d recommend the

Weekend to anybody. The atmosphere is fantastic and the medal is amazing. It’s the best half-marathon medal you’re ever going to get – I wore mine all day on Monday. Everyone should take part. You don’t have to do the half-marathon, you can do the 5k or the 10k. They also do kids’ runs throughout the weekend – 100m sprint, 200m sprint and 1k. Children walk around showing their medals off so proudly. Some whole families took part – they were walking around the park with their medals on. There is something for everybody at the Disneyland Paris Magic Run Weekend.
