A&K unveils new range of Immersive Journeys tours

Ben Ireland ben.ireland@travelweekly.co.uk

Abercrombie & Kent has introduced a “beyond the five-star” small-group tours concept alongside the release of its 2019-20 Escorted Tours programme.

Immersive Journeys are limited

to 18 guests and have been “designed with the trade in mind”. The 13 tours in 12 countries

across five continents include visits to meet locals in a remote Peruvian village and a peek inside the vaults of a museum. The Immersive Journeys range becomes Abercrombie & Kent’s second type of touring style, joining its Luxury Small Group Journeys. Both are sold via agents. All A&K escorted tours, which

average 14 guests, are led by tour directors and include welcome and farewell dinners, all entrance fees, taxes, tips and Wi-Fi where possible. Departure dates are guaranteed

Groupcorner aims to help agents book accommodation for groups

A tech platform to help travel agents put together quotes for group bookings of 10 or more is looking to expand in the UK having completed a round of funding. Groupcorner features 23,000 properties across

Europe and is already live with 7,000 agents in France, where it launched in 2013. It has a ‘pro’ section for

once two people are booked. Immersive Journeys operate

at a “more leisurely pace” and are designed to be “in-depth and informative, giving guests the chance to understand the culture and history of a location”. There will be no single supple-

ment for the first four solo places booked on each tour and guests can choose experience options. Kerry Golds, managing director of A&K, said: “We believe there is a

gap in escorted touring which goes beyond the five-star – which is why we’ve launched our Immersive Journeys programme. We’ve created it with the UK traveller in mind. We’ve consulted with our trade partners and listened to what their clients want.” To launch the programme, A&K

agents but can also be used by customers direct. Having received a €3 million cash injection, it hopes

to expand its offering to agents across Europe, with the UK – which makes up 19% of its business since it was launched here in January 2017 – a primary focus. Groupcorner takes a slice of the agent’s commission

from the accommodation provider. Chief executive Antoine de Corson said: “The problem with groups is hotels are not going to give you availability for 15 bedrooms without checking. It can be a long and

painful process but we are trying to make it easy.” groupcorner.com
