Make mental health a priority for 2020 A NOTE FROM THE EDITOR
This week’s continuing coverage of the impact of the Thomas Cook collapse on Freedom members is the latest reminder of how work issues can have an impact on both mental and physical health. And we are grateful to those – including three former Freedom
members – who have spoken in our latest Mental Health Matters feature on stress and anxiety to help others facing similar challenges (page 16). The Mental Health Matters series was launched to help eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health, assisting those in the industry to talk more openly and encourage best practice to support those in the workplace and their customers. The response we have received from companies and individuals across the industry means we will continue to focus on the issue
throughout 2020. In the coming months, we will publish more features, and host events and debates including a special Travel Weekly Business Breakfast in association with Deloitte and the Mental Health Foundation on May 5. Throughout the series, we have been indebted to the MHF for its guidance, so we were delighted to be able to raise more than £5,000 for it at the Globe Travel Awards last month (page 12). You can hear from industry leaders who supported the appeal and can still donate at tinyurl. com/globesappeal. We hope the courage of all those who contact us to tell their stories will help ensure the industry continues to make positive mental health a priority for the year ahead.
