Barrhead opens three stores with ex-Cook staff

Barrhead Travel has opened three new stores this week staffed by former Thomas Cook employees. Shops in Wallasey, Warrington


and Darlington have welcomed customers for the first time. The new stores take the Scottish- headquarted agency’s retail network to 93, including Barrhead shops and Managed Service Travel Partners. Eight more are due to open in the


coming months. Each new store has soft-launched


ahead of official openings attended by friends, family, local businesses and in some cases, the local mayor. Darlington had a launch party


on January 31 while Wallasey officially opened its doors on February 3. Warrington will have its official launch event this weekend. All store managers and teams are


being encouraged to support a local charitable cause in their area. Staff waiting for their store to


open have been keeping themselves busy and setting up pop-up shops in shopping centres or meeting clients face to face for appointments. Jacqueline Dobson, president of Barrhead Travel, said: “We are

Lot Polish Airlines parent PGL


rescues ex-Cook airline Condor Condor, the former German airline arm of failed Thomas Cook Group, has been rescued by the owner of Lot Polish Airlines. The deal is expected to be finalised by April. The investment will allow Condor to repay the €380 million loan received from the German government. Condor will continue to act under its current leadership while gaining from expanded connectivity and operational synergies, according to Lot parent company Polish Aviation Group (PGL).

Tailor Made Travel buys fellow Welsh agency Morgan Travel


Welsh independent agency Tailor Made Travel has acquired Morgan Travel. Morgan Travel has been in


Caerphilly for 38 years. The staff will move to a newly enlarged Tailor Made store in the town. Founder Paul Morgan will


remain with the business as a consultant but will focus more on his other property development and conference businesses. Tailor Made has opened two


other shops, in Cwmbran and Ebbw Vale, in the last two months, both staffed by former Thomas Cook agents. The agency is also awaiting CAA approval for its first Atol to set up an in-house tour operation. Tailor Made Travel made total


sales of £30 million in 2019, a figure chief executive Simon Morgan aims to grow to £35 million this year.


Abta marks 70th anniversary


with events and new logo Abta has a range of activities planned to mark its 70th anniversary this year. These include ‘Abta at 70’ spring regional business meetings, and a special reception after Abta’s Travel Matters conference in June. A new logo will be used in Abta branding and press material. Members will receive special 70th anniversary customer-facing material to use as part of the subscriptions renewal process in July.


Attraction World expands trade
