AmaWaterways boss Perl leaves in line restructure

AmaWaterways UK boss Stuart Perl has left the river cruise line as part of a management restructure. Sales, marketing and digital


director Jamie Loizou will now head the UK sales and marketing team, working closely with newly appointed international sales director Marnie Tarsinos. Perl leaves AmaWaterways after


four years as managing director of the UK office. Rudi Schreiner, co-founder and


president of the river cruise line, said: “The travel agency community in the UK and North America has played a critical role in the success that AmaWaterways has achieved over the past 18 years. “As we transition into our next


stage of growth, we are excited about the opportunity that exists, and look forward to continue building strong


partnerships and developing new trade relationships within this key market. “Stuart has built an incredible


team at our office in the UK.” In a statement, the company


added it was “incredibly appreciative of his efforts and wish him best of luck as he moves on to pursue other endeavours”. Perl said: “It has been an


enormously rewarding experience


BIRTHDAY BASH: Scottish agency Frasers Travel has celebrated its 34th anniversary this month. The Saltcoats-based business offered customers drinks and ran special offers in a tie-up with Jet2holidays. Staff also gave out party bags with free airport car parking and two-for- one offers on lounge passes. The agency was founded in 1986 by Fraser McCallum, who was joined in the business by his wife Julie in 1990, after meeting her on an agents’ course in South Africa. office in Guildford in 2016 and appointed Perl as UK managing director. It remained unclear if Loizou’s


job title was to change or if AmaWaterways intended to appoint a new UK managing director.


Travel Republic and Netflights reveal £6m loss


Dnata consumer brands Travel Republic and Netflights have posted losses of almost £6 million. Profits at online travel agency


Travel Republic dropped by £5.7 million in the 12 months to March 31, 2019, compared with the previous year. The OTA reported a £4 million


loss after tax on revenue of £70 million compared with a £1.7 million profit the previous year on revenues of £57 million. Sales increased to £62 million,


up from £38 million, while admin expenses were almost £16.5 million, down from £22 million. Sister brand Netflights reported


a £1.7 million loss after tax on revenue of £4 million, compared with a profit of £43,000 the year before on revenue of £6 million. Profits for Travelbag, dnata’s


high street travel agency, dropped from £8.5 million to £1.06 million. A dnata spokesman said:


“These results are evidence of the challenging headwinds the UK travel sector has faced for several years.”
