Your chance to give credit where it’s due A NOTE FROM THE EDITOR

This week’s edition of Travel Weekly features the leaders of two of the UK’s largest travel retailers, and it is fascinating to hear their take on the current state of play for their businesses and the wider trade. In an exclusive interview, Hays Travel chief operating officer Jonathon

Woodall-Johnston talks about strong trading, growth plans and how tight-knit staff pulled together to overcome the twin hurdles of the pandemic and the loss of visionary founder John Hays (pages 6 and 12). Meanwhile, in her regular column, Barrhead Travel president Jacqueline Dobson echoes that sense of positivity as she talks of the “fierce pride” she feels for all her team who have gone above and beyond to help customers over a challenging summer period (page 14).

This passion and commitment to excellence is of course reflected throughout the agency

community and onwards through the travel supply chain, and I am delighted we will be able to celebrate both when the Globe Travel Awards return to their traditional January date in 2023. As Jacqueline rightly stresses, it is more important than ever for the industry to work together to surmount those challenges and deliver for customers and partners alike. And I would urge all agents to ensure you nominate those suppliers and destinations who have gone that extra mile for you in the past year so we can honour the very best on January 12. To find out how to submit those all-important nominations – and learn about two new categories for commitment to sustainability and staff wellbeing – turn to pages 10 and 33.
