US specialist Vacations to America is visiting 650 travel agencies as it promotes its biggest US programme to date.
The visits aim to significantly
raise awareness of the operator, which offers a range of products including road trips, villas, holiday homes, country inns, rail journeys and motorhomes in the US. The operator works proactively
with about 50 to 100 agents, with trade bookings making up about three-quarters of sales. But in the past three years,
the operator said it had been approached by more agents interested in its product. Managing director Richard
Wimms said: “A lot of agents haven’t heard of us and so it’s about getting the message out to them. We haven’t shouted about what we do and it’s about time we did.” He hopes the visits will result in

“A lot of agents haven’t heard of us and so it’s about getting the message out to them”
the operator working more closely with a further 100 agents. Eighteen ‘ambassadors’ who
have all been trained on Vacations to America products will make 1,500 agency visits between now and September. Some shops will benefit from more than one visit. Agents will receive fact sheets, and advice about destinations, and
information on its latest brochure. In the past the operator has
produced separate brochures for US destinations but, following trade feedback, it now produces one ‘bumper’ brochure. Its 260- page 2017-18 brochure is now out. One of the operator’s selling
points is that 400 to 500 of its properties are not offered by any other UK operator, added Wimms. The operator has also teamed
up with Brand USA to deliver jointly branded travel fact sheets, pens, jelly beans and desk pads
to agents.
