Just look at the profit margins of operators – there is a distinct lack of profit. Without peak-season pricing, many would be out of business, and so would the agents that sell them. ALAN BOWEN
Gold Medal and Travel 2 [both owned by dnata, like Global] have similar levels of price disparity [between term time and school holidays], so maybe dnata should have a group approach? If it hurts their retail agents so much, maybe they should be the first to lower their summer prices? BASIC ECONOMICS Travel Weekly would welcome a response from The Global Travel Group
Weed out pay inequality
Comment: Are we all just imposters? Awarding different pay for the same role, due to gender – it’s shocking that this is still an issue. I hope this has been weeded out long before 2069.
MATT STUART Trump shuns US tourism
Story: USA tourism chief hits out at Trump’s plans to axe Brand USA budget Another two-fingered salute by Mr Trump aimed at visitors to the USA. And yet, why would he want to promote destination USA, when his goal seems to be isolationism?

Good luck, Andrew Story: Botterill reflects on 17 years with links to Global group Best of luck, Andrew, in whatever you do ‘post-dnata’. I remember well the interesting discussions we had when you were at Global and I was at Freedom Travel. Much respect.

QUOTE OF THE
WEEK
“I’ve always believed in the power of tourism. I’m a tourist myself and have travelled extensively. I believe in
the power of the industry to create jobs”
DAVID CAMERON, prime minister 2010-16 › Face to Face, page 14
Agent in South Africa undercut me by £2k
I’ve just lost a regular client’s booking to an agent in South Africa who has priced his whole trip, like for like including flights from the UK, for £2,000 less than I can get from a UK operator. My client knows he won’t be covered by Atol but says the saving is more than enough to cover that. It is annoying when agents overseas are allowed to cross-border sell in the UK – and for so much cheaper – yet some operators tell us we in the UK cannot cross-border sell.

Dnata brands should lead the way
Story: Operators chided for ‘profiteering’ in school holidays by Global agents I’m pretty sure a hotel 2,000 miles away has access to the internet and is able to check on UK school holiday dates, so I’d imagine there’s every chance they raise prices. Airlines, too, hike prices in holiday time. However, as a dad, I know this is a big issue for parents and would love something to be done. PAUL BONDSFIELD
