FAIRMONT WINDSOR PARK Surrey, UK

LOCATION: Within easy reach of Heathrow Airport and Windsor town centre, Fairmont Windsor Park is accessible while retaining the feel of a remote countryside retreat.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Set on the edge of Windsor Great Park, surrounded by 40 acres of green space, the property is vast. The main building houses 251 rooms and suites – but it’s the new Treehouse Suites we’re here to experience. When picturing a treehouse hideaway, my mind conjures a VoÃÞ] ÌimLiÀ-Vl>` >Lo`i ÜiÌh > VÀ>Vklin} wÀi«l>Vi] VloÕ`- ÃovÌ Li` >n` ÕninÌiÀÀÕ«Ìi` «i>Vi° ½m «li>Ãi` Ìo wn` ÌhiÃi suites deliver exactly that, yet are far more spacious and modern than I’d expected. We’re welcomed by a hamper of snacks and essentials, a fridge stocked with locally sourced breakfast ingredients and a bottle of Laurent-Perrier La Cuvée champagne on ice. On the terrace, a steaming hot tub awaits.

THE FACTS: The property’s four Treehouse Suites are tucked into a small woodland area just off the driveway to the main building. They’re removed yet comfortably connected to the hotel’s facilities, with a personal buggy and bikes for getting around. Designed with families and groups in mind, each has a fully equipped kitchen, two en suite bedrooms and a curved terrace with two hot tubs. They sit fairly close to one another; the balcony of our suite, named Magpie, faces the entrance of its neighbour, slightly reducing privacy – although in summer the surrounding foliage should remedy this. The other treehouses back onto thick hedgerows. Alongside the daily replenished hamper and breakfast items, guests can request a grocery delivery before or during their stay. There are also two restaurants: Italian venue Il Gardino (where we enjoy the most decadent pistachio tiramisu) and Windsor Brasserie, opening this spring. Guests can also use the hotel’s spa, which houses an indoor pool, outdoor vitality pool, sauna, steam room and cryotherapy chamber.

IDEAL FOR: The Treehouse Suites are as suited to romantic staycations as they are to family escapes, particularly during half-term when the property hosts a raft of fun activities.

EXPLORE: oÛiÀÃ ov Ìhi oÕÌ`ooÀÃ Üill wn` «linÌÞ Ìo oVVÕ«Þ them. Guests can cycle through the estate’s manicured grounds, pedal to The Savill Garden or venture farther to the deer-dotted expanse of Windsor Great Park. For families, Legoland Windsor and Thorpe Park are close by.

WOW: Even over a short stay, there are countless pockets of calm to sink into. Champagne in the bubbling hot tub as birdsong drifts through the trees; lazy evenings by the lo} wÀi «l>Þin} V>À` }>miÃÆ >n` l>n}ÕoÀoÕà Ão>kà in Ìhi oversized bathtub with a good book. Simple pleasures made gloriously indulgent.

BOOK IT: Nightly rates start from £2,300.
