SCHLOSSHOTEL FISS Fiss, Austria

LOCATION: Situated in the heart of the Austrian Tyrol, in the Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis region, family-run Schlosshotel Fiss sits 1,400 metres above sea level, making it relatively snow sure yet easily accessible via a one-hour transfer from Innsbruck Airport or a 30-minute drive from Landeck-Zams train station. The hotel occupies a prime spot at the top of the village and boasts spectacular 360-degree mountain views.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis is a lesser-known part of Austria for Brits and, as such, Schlosshotel Fiss is a bit ov > hi``in }im] Liin} Ìhi Ài}ion½Ã Ãoli wÛi-ÃÌ>À hoÌil° Ì ià also the only property with a Michelin-starred restaurant, The Beef Club, and the only one to feature a snow-lover’s dream ticket: ski-in ski-out access directly onto the adjoining slopes.

THE FACTS: The property’s origins date back to a hunting lodge and guesthouse built in 1940 before it was reborn as a hotel in 1970. The Domenig family acquired the property in 1991 and now second-generation daughter Simone holds the reins. The 135 individually designed rooms and suites are all personally curated by her, blending traditional cosy elegance with a sleek contemporary feel. Each room has either a terrace or balcony, allowing you to soak in the vistas. There >Ài >lÃo ÌÜo *>noÀ>m> -ÕiÌià >VÀoÃà ÌÜo yooÀà >n` > «ÀiÛ>Ìi Chalet Suite a few steps from the hotel itself. Schlosshotel Fiss is surrounded by 133 miles of ski slopes catering to all abilities, and an extensive 68-lift system. In summer there is access to more than 310 miles of superb hiking trails and, between June and October, 125 miles of solo-trail bike routes, making it an ideal location for those who love outdoor fun. Clients who prefer to relax indoors will not be disappointed either. The wellness facilities at Schlosshotel Fiss are expansive: the Aqua Monte & Schloss Spa features adult-only and family zones, plus saunas, a 37-metre indoor-outdoor pool, fully equipped gym, mountain crystal steam bath and relaxation room. facilities, encompassing baby care, kids’ clubs, a teen lounge and in-house cinema, while foodies will enjoy the all-inclusive luxury board package included in the room and suite rate. The cuisine is region-inspired using local ingredients, and the breakfast and lunch buffets plus multi-course evening menu are mind-bogglingly extensive. Open during the winter season only, The Beef Club is the hotel’s culinary crown jewel, ÃiÀÛin} mo`iÀn wni `inin} ÜiÌh ÌÀ>`iÌion>l ƂÕÃÌÀi>n `iÃhið

IDEAL FOR: Multigenerational families who like to be active outside and indulged indoors. Schlosshotel Fiss is widely regarded as the best family hotel in the Tyrol and has all the bases covered when it comes to entertaining varying age }Àoիð

EXPLORE: The village of Fiss combines historic charm and characterful buildings set among steep winding streets. During our stay we were treated to the Unesco-recognised Fisser Blochziehen, a centuries-old Tyrolean carnival tradition that occurs every four years. A huge pine tree, the ‘Bloch’, is pulled through the village on a decorated wooden sled. The festive procession is accompanied by bizarrely masked costumed characters, including men dressed as witches who sweep vigorously at your legs with their brooms as they pass, banishing the dark spirits of winter.

WOW: Guests will be highly impressed by the spa, food and overall ambience at Schlosshotel Fiss. The ability to ski in and ski out from the lift located in the boot room is a real bonus – ÞoÕ V>n wniÃh ÞoÕÀ LÀi>kv>ÃÌ >n` mominÌÃ l>ÌiÀ Li LÕÀnin} iÌ off carving the slopes.

BOOK IT: Rates start from €486 per room per night during summer and €536 during winter.
