DOMOTEX SHOW TIME
WELCOME
When looking at the world of flooring, we do indeed look at the entire world and everything in it that’s relevant to the industry. This issue is no different. Feel free to join us on a voyage of discovery

It’s been a while since I’ve stood at le premier étage of the Eiff el Tower, something I used to do every week during my morning jogs along the Seine as a junior reporter in Paris. One thing that would have made me linger longer than the fi ve minutes to catch my breath and descend would have been the all-glass fl oor that give the most spectacular ariel views of the French capital. We go back there in this issue, along with Austria’s Dachstein Glacier Sky Walk and Toronto’s 1122ft high CN Tower, if only to remind ourselves of the sort of use to which such innovations in glass panelling are being put - and the possibilities. From there we put our best foot forward and visit the sort of fl oors these days favoured by everyone from ballet dancers to athletes, looking at the sort of qualities that promote optimum performance and keep those who use them safe from injury. Then we look at wood surfaces in detail, examining how the likes of
hard maple, for example, compares to oak, walnut and pine and looking in detail at areas such as shock absorption, damage resistance and
environmental changes. In recent years, however, a new contender has surfaced in the form of polyurethane, which off ers many advantages at a more aff ordable price. And it’s good to see the market
projections looking so strong for both the fl ooring industry as a whole and carpets and rugs, even the luxury end of the market, all of which of course is confi rmed every time we feature a fl ooring professional in these pages; whether it’s a photographer in France, an Italian
designer or an industry-
renowned Persian rug maker. This time we talk to an infl uencer behind the fast growing Instagram brand Hello Haus. But the message is the same: we’ve been spending more time inside, rethinking our approach to our surroundings and wanting more and more to fi nd new ways of bringing the escapism of nature into the mix. It is a growing trend - and that means it’s here on these pages.
