DOMOTEX CARPETS AND RUGS

DOMOTEX WORLD SECTIONS FLOORING CARPETS AND RUGS

DOMOTEX Carpets and rugs are going to be huge this year – and so are

the styles and types as we emerge from a second year which gave consumers time to look at their surroundings in new ways

Carpets and rugs have always maintained a fascination of their own: partly thanks to the young players from the art and design scene constantly rediscovering the craft, infusing a sense of contemporary character and keeping it alive to the ones born of ancient ways, exuding history and embodying centuries-old cultures. Such is the appeal for the traditional, now a growing number of manufacturers are reworking antique carpets using a multiplicity of processes to revive their appearance. But for everyone, hand-made carpets remain a visual and tactile attraction both within DOMOTEX itself and the market at large. These hand-knotted, hand-woven or hand-tufted carpets are

distinguished by their individual character. Every one of them is unique. Combined with variations on materials, colours and shapes, diff erent production processes never fail to achieve a unique look. Hand-made carpets serve as design elements that accentuate any room, giving it structure and creating a special atmosphere. From antique to modern and contemporary, from classic oriental rugs to leather, fur, jewelled and decorative carpets – the hand-made carpet is an ancient cultural asset, yet always up-to-date. With carpets from Afghanistan, China, India, the Caucasus, Iran and many other places, the world of carpets always meets at DOMOTEX to give it an unrivalled international appeal. As for trends, opinions vary but there is a general consensus that this year will see it making a comeback in a big – and particularly stylish – way, which means we will be expressing our creativity in bold, imaginative and innovative

forms. In practical terms, this could mean everything from mixing bright and bold contrasting colours to rich jewel tones, geometrics and intricate patterns, all linked to one overriding theme of self-expression. Another on-trend view is a return to all things earthy, organic and natural, designed to bring a sense of calm into our homes, aided by natural materials such as wool, sisal and jute - all hard- wearing, natural and versatile. And after, what for many people was

more than 18 months of extraordinary home-based activity, homeowners emerged with a brand-new zest for transforming their surroundings, often with a sense of fun, in many cases in the form of bold, eye-catching designs or even experimentation. All of which means that, as we enter

2022, we are promised a market which is ripe for innovation. And that can only be good news for the industry moving forwards.
