PLANIUM STEEL-UP FOR FLOOR AND WALL INNOVATION
Calamine, a surface lamination generated during the hot working of steel, has been employed by Italy’s Planium as a fi nish to create unique and original fl oors and walls. Sensitive to atmospheric humidity and light, calamine can turn into dark, blue or copper shades to suit the environment in which it is laid. It can be used in natural form or treated to accentuate those shades. All Planium metal fi nishes are designed to be recyclable. Planium uses diff erent types of steel, each with its own well-defi ned chromatic character that gives a particular vision to the whole in terms
of textures for fl oors and walls. Furnishing an interior space with a calamine steel will give a diff erent eff ect to using classic stainless steel. This is because the treatment a steel can receive determines not only its material or chemical peculiarities, but aesthetic ones. In its best-known “canonical” form, stainless steel has the elegance of “coldness”; with its shiny mantle it fi ts perfectly into both internal and urban contexts. If embossed, it will refer to a type of treatment art scholars will remember the calendering that allows the engraving of a design on fabric.
