Joint CISI Ireland and CISI Northern Ireland webinar: How, where, and why we work
On 4 April 2022, the two CISI branches on the island of Ireland held their first ever joint webinar, looking at some of the major trends in asset and wealth management. The two bodies had never cooperated
directly before, and had agreed that the flagship event would be a great way to celebrate the Institute’s 30th year. The final product was extremely well
received by the 72 delegates who attended. It was testament to the hard work behind the scenes in bringing it together. The key focus of the event was that,
while asset and wealth management in the two parts of the island face different regulatory, economic, and legal environments, there are some seismic future trends which will impact on both. There was a wide-ranging discussion on talent acquisition and retention, hybrid
working, new channels to market, and much more. The panel comprised academics,
consultants, and practitioners, who provided great scope for interaction and shared knowledge. Gareth Hetherington MBE, director
of the Ulster University Economic Policy Centre, provided insights into remote working and necessary skill sets, while Payal Mitra, senior manager, people and organisation consulting, PwC Ireland, stressed the importance of mentoring and how to maintain productivity in a hybrid work environment. Christopher O’Neill, Chartered FCSI, partner at Smith & Williamson in Belfast, and Simon Howley, head of wealth management at Goodbody Stockbrokers in Dublin, both spoke passionately about the challenges and
