“Resilience in challenging times is the theme of our special report”
Nikhil Rathi, CEO of the FCA, was guest speaker at the CISI’s 30th anniversary dinner at Mansion House, London. He spoke of the sector facing “an avalanche of economic and geopolitical disruption” but noted that “we are more resilient and better prepared” thanks to “better infrastructure underpinning our global markets”, a core part of which is “the common professional standards and codes which are drawn on by firms working across borders”. He acknowledged the “incredibly important” role that the CISI plays in helping to boost the development of education and skills.
This resilience in challenging times is the theme of our special report, which looks at the Institute’s evolution within the wider global context, outlining some key developments, especially over the past five tumultuous years (pp.16–26). As we share our 30th year with English football’s Premier League, we’ve included a comparative look at its development in terms of wages, investment, and catalysts for change, to name a few (pp.27–28).
To gain a snapshot of the sector for our landmark year, we spoke to a diverse global group of members and key figures about their perspectives and concerns for the future, looking at current themes, such as how best to achieve net zero, the impact of virtual assets, and effective implementation of true diversity and inclusion within the workforce (pp.29–37).
Other highlights in this edition include our profile of Farmida Bi CBE, global chair of Norton Rose Fulbright (pp.38–41), a look at the evolution of the sector in terms of professional areas represented by our Professional Forums (pp.42–49), a Q&A with the chief executive of the Financial Services Skills Commission about its report into skills needed in future (p.58), and an ethical dilemma about a staff member who may have ADHD (pp.54–55).
