Experience has been fi ne-tuned by automotive world
Returning to Southern Manufacturing with renewed services and cost- eff ective injection moulding, White Horse Plastics is targeting manufacturers and OEMs with a full spectrum of design to manufacturing competences. The company’s design for
manufacture experience has been fine-tuned over many years, a large number of which were honed working in the challenging automotive world, where complex tooling to extremely tight tolerances is the norm. Coupled with never losing sight of the need for Lean Manufacturing solutions, the company believes its engineers are ideally placed to help optimise designs for production, lower costs and improve productivity.
In 2018, the company renewed
major QA accreditations and standards. In addition to the medical manufacturing standard EN ISO 13485:2012, it holds the universal quality management system ISO9001:2015, the environmental standard ISO 14001:2015 and the automotive quality standard IATF16949:2016.

Tool line-up includes presses
This year Zygology will be showing the latest fasteners and tooling from POP Avdel, including the PB battery rivet tool range, the new XT and XTN rivet nut tools and the new Neobolt fasteners and battery tooling. There will also be new access hardware from Southco, including the rotary and electronic latch systems revolutionising the way designers think about enclosure designs. Presses and accessories from
Haeger now augment the Pemserter range, and there will also be new PEM fastener ranges including extensions to the popular SMTSO surface mount products. There will also be Tesa ACX+ assembly tapes and Spiralock self-locking nuts. The company is also the UK sales
and distribution centre for Masterfix blind riveting fasteners and tooling,
providing next day service to distributors around the country. Tool and spare part sales for POP Avdel and Masterfix tooling as well as a full repair service are also off ered.

Promoting the machine tool ranges sold into the UK and Ireland under sole agency agreements, Whitehouse Machine Tools will demonstrate the Brother Speedio M140X1 five-axis, 30-taper mill- turn centre (pictured). It has a 2,000 rpm direct-drive c-axis table and an a-axis trunnion, tiltable from +120 to -30°, which allows features to be machined at the rear of components and facilitating loading and unloading of parts at the front of the machine. Axis travel (x/y/z) is 200/440/305mm. A 16,000 rpm Big Plus face-and-taper contact spindle can be specified in place of the standard 10,000 rpm spindle. Every conceivable element of non-productive time has been removed, says the company, with fast speeds during non-cutting motions, but they also take place simultaneously in x, y, x, a and c, together with a tool change. The spindle motor’s rapid accelerate/ decelerate and highly responsive servo control enable a 0.2 second start/stop time. Start-up time of the turning table from zero to 2,000 rpm is less than 0.3 seconds.
Treatments and coatings have a four- point plan
The specification includes 0.9
second tool change from the 22-position magazine, giving 1.4 seconds chip-to-chip time. Rapids of 50m/min in the linear axes help to minimise non-cutting times further, while 30m/min cutting feed rate maximises metal removal rate. Other machining centres
from Spinner, Wele and Axa, Germany, and Akari, Taiwan, are also available, together with CNC turning centres from Spinner and Biglia, Italy.

One of the UK’s largest heat treatments and hard coatings suppliers to aerospace, automotive, motorsports and surgical implant industries, the Wallwork Group, has four locations, Manchester, Birmingham, Cambridge and Newcastle to provide a rapid service to customers in all corners of the UK. Operating capacity
has increased as several investments in equipment went live at the end of 2018, including a large capacity Seco vacuum furnace and Rübig plasma nitride furnace in Cambridge. A new 1,200kg payload furnace for processing aluminium is coming on stream in Birmingham, closely followed by a new sealed quench furnace due to be in operation early 2019. Howard Maher, group sales
Linear motion products from THK include linear guides, actuators, ball screws, link balls and cross roller rings, used as mechanical components in all industries. In addition to off ering standard components, its flexible
development and proposals for customised products are designed to meet special purposes and usage conditions.

Desktop router de-panels PCBAs
Developed for precise cost- eff ective de-panelling of PCBA panels, the Aurotek 330DTII desktop router is one of the machines available from Zen Production Equipment.
It will be joined on the stand by the Asscon Systemtechnik- Elektronik VP510, for vapour phase processing anywhere on the shop floor where there is a 13A socket available, and conveyors and
loaders from Vanstron. Other equipment
from partners includes convection reflow, air and nitrogen, vacuum reflow and curing ovens from
Heller Industries, waver soldering from EPM, selective soldering by mini wave, active flow or stamp technology by Inertec and stecil and PCBA cleaning by PBT Works.

manager, comments: “Additional plant is only part of the story. We have a strong service ethic... a dedicated pick-up/delivery fleet, UKAS-certified in-house mechanical testing and multiple aerospace prime accreditations”. The increased capacity
is timely, as processing aluminium and vacuum brazing, particularly, are seeing greater demand, in the light of REACH. Also important is the in-house developed environmentally safe PVD coating that is a full HCP (hard chromium plating) replacement.
