Verbs in many languages are split into groups called réimnithe or conjugations. There are two réimniú in Irish and one group of briathra neamhrialta.
• An chéad réimniú consists mostly of verbs with one syllable. • An dara réimniú consists mostly of verbs with two syllables. • Na briathra neamhrialta consists of verbs that do not follow the normal rules. Thankfully, there are only 11 in Irish. French has over 80, German over 150 and English has nearly 300! Welsh, a sister language of Irish, also has 11.
