Source
What information does this source give you about the events of Scullabgue?
Source 1
This source shows us an artist’s interpretation of what happened. It shows the victims locked in a barn that was set on fire. It shows them being prevented from trying to escape.
Can you detect any bias in this source?
Hard to say for definite. We know the victims were locked in a barn and burnt. We know those who tried to escape were stopped but the artist was very young when this event happened and we don’t know if he witnessed it or just heard about it afterwards, possibly from a biased source.
How is this source useful to historians?
Images are sometimes easier to understand than text but this source was created nearly 50 years after the event took place and we don’t know where the artist got his information from, so we don’t know how reliable it is.
