Gettingstarted Jack Prelutsky was born in New York in 1940. As a school boy he disliked poetry and was much more interested in drawing. He worked as a truckdriver, photographer, folksinger and at other jobs before discovering his true talent as a poet. The following extract shows how he got started. He submitted some drawings to a publisher and wrote poems to go with them.
