OBITUARY

In Memoriam

Peter George Berrisford, 9th March 1950 to 15th August 2025

Peter George Berrisford, a much-loved husband, father, grandfather, colleague and friend, passed away on 15th August 2025. Born in Stoke-on- Trent on 9th March 1950, Peter went on to build a remarkable career in the lubricants industry while making a lasting impression on everyone he met with his generosity, positivity, and zest for life.

A chemical engineer by training, Peter began his career in 1970 as a Sales Engineer with Witco, later moving to TriKem as Field Sales Manager, where he developed a reputation not only for technical knowledge but also for his ability to build lasting relationships with customers across the automotive, steel and engineering sectors. He then joined the British Sun Oil Co Ltd, the UK subsidiary of Sun Oil Co of Philadelphia, where he rose through a series of roles including Industrial Manager and ultimately Technical Sales Manager – Europe. Leading a team of eight, Peter was responsible for sales and technical services across a diverse range of markets, reporting directly to board level.

When Sun Oil withdrew from international operations, Peter turned a challenge into an opportunity. In 1987 he founded Petrico Ltd, creating a business that would become a respected and influential name in the industry.

Peter’s reach extended across the Atlantic through his pivotal role in supporting Kimes Technologies International in the USA. At a crucial point in the company’s journey, he invested to secure its future, remaining a significant shareholder and serving on the board alongside his close friend Norm Kimes and Norm’s daughter Julie. His commitment went far beyond business; Peter brought energy, wisdom and encouragement, helping to shape the company’s path while also deepening lifelong friendships.

After 34 years at the helm of Petrico, Peter

retired from the board in 2021 when the business was sold to KRAHN Chemie. Even then, he continued to call the office to check in, making sure his colleagues were well and the company was thriving. It was a simple act that spoke volumes about the man he was — caring, loyal, and always thinking of others.

Beyond his business career, Peter was also instrumental in the creation of Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice. From its earliest days he gave his time, energy and expertise as a founding Board Director between April 1993 and April 1998, helping to establish the hospice and shape its future direction. His commitment reflected the same qualities that defined him in all walks of life — generosity, vision, and an instinctive desire to care for others and to give back to the community.

Peter was, quite simply, one of the great characters of the lubricants industry — a gentleman, a visionary, and above all, a man who cared deeply about people. He will be remembered with admiration and affection by all who knew him, both professionally and personally.

Peter is survived by his beloved wife Sheila, his children and his grandchildren, who will continue to carry forward his spirit of adventure, kindness and optimism.

In memory of Peter, and in recognition of his support for Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice, the family kindly requests that any donations be directed to the Hospice, whose work he greatly valued.
